a change is as good as a rest (but a rest certainly helps)

Where Tarot is concerned, I had to slam the breaks on over Christmas. My life is moving at an incredibly fast pace after a long period of having all the free time I could possibly need for deepening my Tarot study. All the things I'd been dedicated to doing almost every day (free readings on facebook, twitter updates, the Etsy shop, working for a private Tarot company and blogging) had to be cut right back as I began to put other concerns into the foreground. I have hugely enjoyed steeping myself in the history, meaning and debates surrounding Tarot. Giving myself that intense self-study period has worked wonders for my understanding of the deck and has made me into a much more mature reader than I ever hoped to be, but it's time to carve out a new space for Tarot in my life as other responsibilities come back into play.

I haven't looked at the deck for about three weeks now and the break has done me good. I'm hoping to return to some readings today with a renewed perspective and get motivated again. The stage I'm at now, as a reader, is not where I will stay. I learn something new with each reading I give. I progress and evolve all the time and I know that this is a journey that can continue (albeit with occasionally extreme twists and turns) throughout my life. Which is just as comforting as it is daunting!

I hope the new year is treating everyone well. Personally, if I had to pick a card to sum up the first few weeks of my 2012 it would definitely be The Tower! Still, the only way is up.. I hope.
