Combating Resistance Through the Art of Planning

Sometimes I wonder if I should be offering people advice about planning, time management, combating resistance and making the most out of life. Although I feel I've come a long way since my days of hardcore procrastination and deeply unproductive week-long navel-gazing, I still have my moments! I can certainly find time intimidating and if you were to accuse me of having my head in the clouds, it wouldn't be the first time someone had said as much! But the fact is that I'm not offering my insights and tips from a place of superiority or even expertise. I'm offering them from a place of experience.

Yes, I definitely struggle with this thing that we call consensus reality. There is a part of me that wants to hide under the blankets and watch cartoons on my laptop all day and write lists of my favourite fictional characters and make up songs about adventures through space. That part of me also wants to avoid making important phone calls and even sometimes wants to duck out of spending time with other people. (Have you met Dizzy McWoowoo? I can introduce you to her in this video!) But there's this daring, constructive and wildly tenacious side of me too, and I needed to let that side live! So I focused on different ways to use paper planning systems to my advantage. I looked at ways to make them enjoyable and even, dare I say it, a little addictive! I needed to create tools which tapped into my inner child in order to coax my adult self into the business of running a business and getting shit done!

I know that I'm not perfect. I don't try to be. Since I don't try to convince my clients to aim for perfection, it's certainly something I try to avoid pursuing in my own life. I know that there's always more to learn and I'm happy to acknowledge that. I don't offer my advice about planning and combating resistance in order to condescend to all those lowly peasants who still do battle with the ticking clock! I offer my advice as one of them, in solidarity, because I can only keep improving my outlook and adapting my system.. albeit with the occasional three day bender, obviously. (One does want a hint of outrageous hedonism.)

If you haven't checked out my latest two videos yet, you can click on them below. They kind of come as a bit of married couple. For me at least, and for many others, planning has been a way to combat resistance. These two lengthy musings therefore compliment each other, and they are offered by a fellow traveler who still struggles to get real and get her shit together sometimes!
